Health Insurance Understanding what's covered/meaning of policy wording

Doing my annual return!.......

With Irish Life Health, if a benefit is covered at "50% up to €300", does that mean if I spent €400 that I'm due back €200 or €150 (if we assume zero excess)??!!
 
My understanding is that if you spend 600 you get 300 back. If you spend more than 600 you get 300 back. If you spend less than 600 you get 50% of your spend back. 300 is the max that you get back.

Billo's interpretation is obviously the more favourable one from my perspective. Was I being silly :rolleyes: or is the wording sloppy/open to different interpretation?!
 
My two cents. Maximum on its own is not enough! Maximum on its own could still refer to the spend. It should specify maximum refund to avoid ambiguity.
