I'm 22 living at home and want to move out.
The only problem is that while I now want to move out and become independent I would like to travel later on perhaps around 25/26, after I've established myself some more career wise.
The crux of my problem is that I have this fear of being 'trapped' ie I buy a place and live in it paying off the mortgage for three years and then become unable to travel due to the burden of the mortgage.
Ideally, I'd like to rent the place out over a 12 month period while i'm away and I'm wondering if this is practical?
Have any of you guys done something similar?
Travelled for a long time (ie 12 months) while holding down a mortgage, how did you cope with the mortgage repayments?
The other suggested solution I was given by a friend, is to rent a bedsit for a year or two as I get set up on my feet work wise and then travel safe in the knowledge that there is no burden of a mortgage back home.
What do you guys think, will buying a place now prevent me from travelling to Australia or Asia in three or four years time?
