Ulster bank newry?

I rang up yesterday and was told I could set up a savings A/C over the phone but would have to be physically present for a current a/c.

Today I was told the opposite.

Anyone know what the story is?

No you need to be physically there with proof of ID, passport or driving licence and recent household bills.

Interestingly the girl also asked if we had cash or drafts with us (which we hadn't) but seemed to infer she wouldn't be able to accept these and that they would only accept an electronic transfer. So if you are doing any of the above I would check this out too before heading up.
