UK car imported by garage -manufacturer warranty? risk in buying?

Hi,
I am looking at an imported skoda octavia.non skoda garage. manufacturer warranty only. also garage is 140 miles away from me. It's a 2008 car with a supposed three year warranty according to dealer.
Am I covered in event of major failures or am I taking a major risk without getting a mechanic to look at it?

If the seller won't stand over the car he's selling, I'd walk away.

BTW, the fact that he doesn't offer an explicit warranty doesn't automatically relieve him of his obligations to a purchaser under the sale of goods and supply of services act 1980 - http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1980/en/act/pub/0016/index.html

UK Skodas come with a three year warranty from new and the balance of that warranty gets passed on to a subsequent purchaser, provided the servicing conditions etc are met. Check with Skoda here how good this warranty would be. I believe the car may have to come from a Skoda dealer.
