The Army are the guardians of the (secular) Constitution while the President is subverting the power of the Parliament and turning a largely ceremonial office into an executive one as well as suppressing free speech and the independence of the public service, police and judiciary.

Not so sure that I agree with the leanings on the previous threads.

Coups in Turkey are generally set up by military to ensure their undemocratic sideway hold on power.
The idea of coups is now so {last century}and citizens in Turkey have clearly shown that.
Erdogan has by most measures improved most things in Turkey, and I am sure a lot of Turks worry about his dictatorial notions .
When all is said he was freely elected.
