Hi

We have moved into a house in dublin the tree outside the garden is huge the biggest on the road it will block the sun into our house and the next door

Should i contact the coucil to get them to trim it down or is it up to us to do it
The leaves are starting to come off so now would be a good time to get it done

As its outside your garden its probably the responsibility of the Council and you should contact them about it. If its SDCC you might have a long wait because a neighbour of ours has the same problem and they don't rush themselves. You would probably need their permission to do anything with the tree also.

Contact the council.

Beware of doing anything yourself unless you happen to be a tree surgeon - you do say it is huge and so not to ba taken lightly. Even then, beware anyway since your neighbours may not appreciate you moving in and 'damaging' (in their view) the amenity of the area.

If the council do it the neighbours can't have any direct issue.

is the tree on public property or private was it there when you purchased the house

the tree is on public property just outside our garden. It is higher than the house so it will block the sun on our house and the house beside us.

Is your house situated in an estate where the upkeep of the common areas is up to the residents committee?

it is a small cul de sac with about 12 houses on it. Only moved in a few weeks so not really sure if it is up the the resident committee. I will get onto the council today and see what they say
thanks for the replies
