I am looking for some recommendations re a car mechanic. I have a BMW 320 and BMW are looking to charge me €550 + VAT for breaks for an old car. The person I bought the car off always had it serviced by BMW and my own mechanic has emigrated so I’m stuck.

Any recommendations in Terenure?

Gerry Caffrey motors in Terenure Village Ask for Mike. He has serviced my BMW5 series. Very reasonable and honest.

Dave Curry Motors, behind Comans pub in Rathgar - 4908423. Ask for Andrew Curry. An honest chap, but always very busy due to a good reputation!

To e fair, it depends what needs to be done to the brakes!! Have you left them too log & damaged the discs by not changing thepads early enough?! Irish people don't believe in servicing their car & it really IS a false economy as larger repairs ensue. I get my Audi done by a very good guy in HArolds Cross. They are in the Greenmount Industrial Estate & specialise in Bemeers & Mercs too.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I got the car's brakes and a full service with synthetic oil which puts another £75 Euro onto the bill for the same price that as BMW were looking for the brakes. Dave Curry motors reset the computer and stamped the book and supplied all the receipts I needed. A great find Dave D
Thanks!

I know that these posts are old but I called Dave Curry this morning for a quote to replace a battery on an audi a3 diesel. I was quoted €200. I called my Dads mechanic and he quoted me €65. i really want to trust mechanics when i call looking for a quote. Maybe I've become synical but i do think that once a female voice is heard down the phone the quote becomes ridiculous. so for anyone who found this while googling for a mechanic in the terenure area....... first rule dont call if your female!

If you can get a brand new, decent quality battery fitted for €65 I'd be amazed, a Bosch battery for an A3 diesel will cost at least €115 for the battery alone, assuming its a , or up to €208 if you go for a longer life one. Fitting is a 10 minute job that you can easily do yourself, its a couple of bolts loosen't battery out, new one in, and tighten bolts. I've had cars serviced with Dave Curry Motors for years, and know at least 10 other people who have also done so, none of whom have a bad word to say about them, and quite a lot of them are women! You might get a cheaper "quote" elsewhere but they won't be using the same quality parts which in this case make up the vast majority of the total cost.

Can you tell us the type of battery that your fathers mechanic quoted for?

Thanks for posting about Curry's DaveD. I booked my car in for a service as the service light was on, left it up this morning and got a call 30 mins later to say it didn't need anything done to it and he be robbing me if he serviced it! He washed it, inflated the tyres and checked the oil and charged me ........nothing! Needless to say I'll definitely be going back when it's due a service.
