Never been to either island and am considering an off-season holiday with our 3 young children.
Would one be better than the other for a family holiday or are they much the same?

Hi Ive been to both, but not with 3 young children. Personally we preferred Lanzarote, it seemed easier to get around & there was more value & choice when eating out in Puerto Del Carmen anyway.
You lucky thing!

We have been to both.. much prefer Lanzarote.. if you need any information give me a shout.

I've been to both also and would definitely recommend Lanzarote, especially for a family holiday. Both are lovely places, but the social scene
in Tenerife would cater to more 18 to 30's style holidays as opposed to
families or couples. Lanzarote is more laid back and relaxing IMO.

Lanzarote by far is better place to go, loads to do with kids.
There is a place called rancho texas which the kids will love and lots of other day trips. The beaches are spotless and the main strip has had a facelift and its much safer for walking with young kids.It is very cheap to eat and every resturaunt cater for kids.

Hope you enjoy your hol:D

We've been to both and Puerta del Carmen in Lanzarote wins hands down. We've gone back twice more to P del C. We were bored in Teneriffe so hubby rented a car which was nice but kids were not impressed.
If you are planning to go during mid-term at the end of October, be warned that the water in the swimming-pools in both places will probably be too cold for very small kids. Mine had to go in everyday and came out shivering with blue lips. Otherwise, the weather should be okay.

We have been to both in October and November and to us Tenerife wins fantastic walk all the way along the seafront and much more variety in restaurants. We book our flights and acomdation separate and works out so much cheaper. We dont have children but in Oct/Nov there is much more life in Tenerife.

Personally would much prefer Tenerife in the right location. Mare Nostrum resort area close to Los Cristianos is particularly nice. Siam Park is a really excellent water park for kids and is very close. Avoid Playa Las Americas

Playa de las americas has some nice family parts to it, its only veronicas strip you would need to avoid
