Hi,

I recently left a permanent position to join a company I wanted to get into. I took a lower wage and a 6 month contract where I am covering for a person on sick leave. I am into my third month currently, I have been unofficially told that the 6 months will continue into next year.

Yesterday a permanent position went up on the board in a different department.

I want to go for it however will it reflect badly on me in my current position if I don't get it?

Speak to your your direct manager about it before you submit an application.

I wouldn't imagine he would or could have an issue but always best to be upfront before HR discuss it with him/her.

If they value you, they'll most likely welcome the opportunity to get you into a permanent role.
