Stop over Barcelona or Girona, hotels?

Family holiday in France, near Perpignan, in July.

Got a good deal on flights into BARCELONA, arrive 8.30 Friday evening.
But checkin to mobile home not till Saturday afternoon.

So should we:
Stay in Barcelona, quick look around city Saturday morning (with 3 kids who will probably be bored!).
OR.
Break some of journey on first night, head as far as Girona, stay there and continue in morning.

IBIS or some cheap and cheerful hotel will be fine, just looking for a bed.
Any suggestions of Hotels?

have stopped over in the express/holiday inn in Salt. This town is about three to four miles from Girona. The hotel is just beside a big shopping center, with lods of places to eat McDonnalds, and just beside hotel a great Chinese, buffet meal for about 6-7 euro.

Girona Hotels...

I stayed in Hotel Ciutat de Girona last year. Nice hotel in the centre of town, for about 100 euros per night. We enjoyed staying there for a few days before heading to the Pyrenees and France.

Thanks all for suggestions - Tom3, booked into express/holiday Inn in salt....part of holiday routine to have first lunch in McDs anyway! so will continue that tradition!.
