Hi folks
I wonder if any any tax whizz out there can tell me if stamp duty is payable on the assignment of an ordinary pub licence?

Not great on stamp duty but i feel there is a conveyance of property for consirderation and a legal document to be stamped which would give rise to a conveyance on sale of other propery liable to stampy duty at the non res property rates being 9% if over €150K
Is it a sale of the licence or a gift etc....?

dont think there is any exemptions for pubs

I don't know the answer to your question.

But what I do know is the Intoxication of Liquor Bill ammendment has been passed and the Act is due to be passed by the Dáil this summer. After this has passed the whol idea of buying and selling of licences will be gone, as licences will be attainable via a simple application. Of course you'll have to pass certain conditions as will your propose enterprise before it will be granted a licence.

Not too sure if this helps in anyway...but best of luck with what ever your up to :)
