Hi,

Looking for some help please. My retired parents want to purchase my brothers house (married). Brother moving to another house. My brothers current house is valued at 315k euro. Do my parents qualify for the half stamp duty payment if they go through with purchase?

Can a portion of the 315k be assigned to furniture &fittings for the stamp duty calculation?

Appreciate any advice.

To the first question, yes, relief at half the normal rate applies.

To the second, I would advise you to read through the many other threads on the topic-in short, I suspect the answer is probably 'no'.

If furniture etc is being sold along with the house than that part would not be liabile to stamp duty, you would need to asign a "fair value" to the contents and exclude that amount from any stamp duty calcualtion
