Smelly Aircon

Recently bought a second hand car. It has air-con, but there is a smell (musty/damp) whenever you switch it on.
When the air-con is off there is no smell coming through the regular vent system. Any ideas what is causing this or how I might fix it?

Probably bacteria built up in the system through limited use over a period of time. You can buy an aerosol product (the name escapes me at the moment but i'll find out later) where you leave the aircon running on full with windows up and release this stuff to sort it out.

If you bought from a garage go back to them and complain.

Other than that there may be some filters to change or something like that.

Mind you there won't be much call for the AC for a while I would imagine.
