Hello, just wanted opinions on the small gift exemption.

If I received a gift valued at €90k say in 2007 and a gift of say €300k today in 2016, can I claim the first €3k from both the €90k and the €300k when doing aggregation, i.e so the taxable values used for aggregation are €87k and €297k?

thanks Jon, I couldn't see any examples on Revenue of how it worked so just wanted to double check.

You would be able to disregard €6k each time if the gift comes from a couple.

Or €12k each time if the gift comes from a couple to you and your partner.

Interesting Gordon, thank you....the €90k gift I received back in 2007 was from my parents ( a site to build my house). They were both joint owners of the land at the time (my mother has since passed, RIP).
So what you are saying is I can put the value of the site for aggregation as €84k in this case?
