My uncle gifted me a site in County Cork.
Solicitor was contcted and maps drawn up in Jan/Feb 03.
In July 03 solicitor told me that it would take approx. two years to finalise the transfer of the site into my name.
A few weeks ago I contacted he solicitor to see if the transfer was finalised.
He rang me back today to say that there had been a problem with the map(not on original paper or something like that) and it had to be redrawn.
Question is would it normally take more than two years to transfer a site of land.

with no map, probably .

anyhoos the solicitor said it would take 2 years and it did .

Tonka,
I should have said that it is still ongoing.
It may take another few months. Seemed like a long time to me to complete the transfer.

Its a pain if all the docs folios and maps are not complete, most of the delay is in the Land Registry IIRC

1. Yes, where a part of a folio is being transferred there is a long waiting list in the land registry. How long depends on what part of the country you are in.
2. The fact that the transfer is on a waiting list in the land registry will not stop you doing whatever you like with the property so that you can sell it, transfer it, build on it etc etc as once the transfer is signed you are effectively the owner.

Vanilla/Tonka,
Thanks for the replies. I am happier now. Thanks again.
