Signing contracts

Hi all,
I have a query regards the signing of contracts for a house im in the process of buying. i'm looking at a closing date 1 nov 08 / signing contracts earlier next week, but with the budget approaching should i wait till after the budget to sign contracts in case of stamp duty changes etc or will it even affect me. When would stamp duty changes be implemented if there were changes in the budget - 01/01/09??

They ususally bring in changes like that immediately I would think esp in this budget they would as its the economical climate thats making them bring in the budget earlier than norm. Aside from that i personally dont think there will be changes in stamp duty but that said wait til after Oct 14th and you'll know!
