Ship street is a very old area of the town , near to the new Scotch Hall . It is low lying and and as a result was constantly flooded when the river was high and some of the houses had a rat infestation problem
There was talk about reinforcing the river bank a few years ago but I don't know if this was ever done .
The street was semi derelict for years and a couple of years ago a number of them were sold off for 45,000 pounds each . The houses are very small if I can recall ,one up/down .( they could possibly have been old mill workers houses )
On the plus side they are near the town have a stone front and are on a wide street , if you want directions let me know
