Setting up as a sole trader

Hi I'm thinking of setting up as a sole trader soon. I have the chance to undergo a course which will give me further certification in relation to this. This course is going to cost 1800euro. My question is whether I am better off setting up as a sole trader then doing the course? Can training costs in relation to the business in question be offset against tax? Thanks in advance as I am new to all this.

Training in relation to putting yourself in a position to be able to carry out the business is not a tax allowable expense.

Ongoing training to keep you up to date would however be allowable.

remember as a sole trader you will be liable for all debts if the business or service that your providing doesent work out . i would look at all possibilities , ie a ltd co. etc and before you do anything especially before spending €1800, talk to an accountant. said by one with experience!!!!
