Self employed teacher.. Entitled to any benefits?

My GF n her sister set up a montessori which is just about to end its first school year... I am just wondering if anyone knows weathershe/they will be entitled to any benifets... As it is we barely make rent/bills etc and as i pay for over 70% of them i'm constantly strapped for cash. A summer of paying them all myself doesnt sound too good...
 
presumably, your GF and sister set themselves up as self-employed? If so, they may be able to sign on for JA if assessment by SW of their income shows that it is below the weekly rate of JA . (€185.80 for single person). They will have to have accounts to prove this and the income will be spread over the year and not just when the school was open. Of course, they must also be available for and genuinely seeking alternative work to their self-employed to apply for JA.
 
Well her sisters gonna be lecturing so that'll keep her going. The GF is gonna be running a summer camp but there's still 6-8 weeks that she wont be working...
