Hi,

We are considering a family self catering holiday in west cork this coming May. Neither of us are familar with the area and ideally we would like accomodation adjacent to a beach or very close by. We are 2 adults and 2 children under 2yrs. A cottage/bungalow is preferred if you know of any that are suitable or that you can recommend. Have been looking at accomodation in and around the Clonakilty and Roscarbery area but am open to look at other areas.

Any help is much appreciated!

What about in the grounds of Inchydoney Lodge & Spa, a short drive from Clonakilty. Unfortunately use of the leisure centre isn't included. The bar food has a very good reputation though, and the location is right on the beach.

Also the just outside Clonakilty might be of interest as they have self-catering options. The 2nd bedroom in the 2 bedroom apartments is tiny though, if I remember correctly, so the 3 bedroom holiday homes might be more suitable. The hotel is pretty child-friendly and the pool has a toddlers area.

Agree with a poster above, Durrus, Glandore, Goleen, etc. these places are the real west Cork. Clon and Ross are fairly commercialised at this stage. If you're planning on a bit of sight-seeing down there, head up over the Priest's Leap and down into Kenmare. Simply stunning.

We stayed in the Ballylickey Bay Cottages last year, which are located between Bantry and Glengarriff. The cottages were very comfortable, the location was very safe with lovely grounds and nice walks all around.
I would recommend it to anyone.
