Can anyone give me any recommendations or tips for a self-build mortgage please - we're first time buyers (i.e. no previous mortgages or properties), have savings and are both employed.
We were looking into the idea of using a Mortgage Broker also - given we're so busy with other decisions regarding the build, we thought this might be a good way to alleviate some of the stress and save us having to trawl from bank to bank looking for a good deal. There would be fees involved but am not sure if I'd get a better deal with the broker, or by going directly to the bank.
We did visit Ulster Bank a number of months ago about getting approval and there was no problem with the amount we were looking for - is it going to be much more hassle going through a bank directly than going through a broker? I'm not financially minded really and the idea of having to compare offerings from multiple banks brings me out in a cold sweat :-/
