Hi all,

What would people recommend would be the safest way to carry money in Thailand for a 3 week holiday? Obviously large amounts of cash are out of the question and the person who is going does not yet have a credit card. Would it be best to apply for one just for the duration of the holiday or is there another safe and cheaper method?

Many thanks

Definitely get a CR Card if you have enough time. Preload it & then you can withdraw cash from ATM's as you need it, without Cash advance fees.

Cirrus will work for ATM's but remember you're in a different currency zone so each withdrawal will cost you approx 3.5% ( Min €2.50 max €17 ) Will work out expensive if you make a lot of smaller withdrawals.

Credit Card is probably the best, just bear in mind government duty applies regardless of whether the card is just for the holiday or kept for longer. It would still be the safest way, can be reported immediately if lost and is acceptable worldwide. As another poster has advised it can be pre-loaded.

Credit Card is a must. For emergency funds - for peace of mind should the worst happen (ie. cc lost or stolen), would be wise to have someone at home lined up to transfer some funds to you via Western Union. WU offices everywhere and you can pickup the cash once the sender provides you with the code.

Thanks for all the replies, think CC is the best from the suggestions here. From doing a quick search, many CC come with travel insurance and emergency cash/card if lost or stolen so now just have to decide which one to go for.

Kind regards

LL
