Rendering A RedBrick Gable Wall.

Just looking for a bit of advise here.

Living in a 1920's red brick in Phibsboro. Have a gable wall that has a few cracks running along it. The cracks are in the cement render that was put over it at some stage.

Most of the cracks are not uncommon to what you see around the area. But due to a bit of poking one of them looks a bit more dramatic really.

I had a structural engineer look at it and they said it was longterm settlement, then thermal heat from the chimneys cracking through the cement render.

Just looking for the best step to resolve it.

I was on to a restoration company and they advised taking off the cement render, seeing what the bricks were like under neath and then possibly repointing. If the bricks were in bits then we could put on a fresh render.

They are talking 11g just to take off the existing render and replaster.

Has anyone else been in this scenario? What would you advise? Would it not make more sense just to patch up the existing cement render rather than take it off as huge cost and out another one back on or spend double the money repointing all the old bricks?

Any ideas?
