Removing an Old Oil Tank

We recently switched over from Oil to Gas central heating. The oil tanker is still out the back garden.

Who can I get to remove this safely? I am based in Dublin.

You will need to get the tank cleaned and desludged. The previous oil company/supplier "may" remove the good product from the tank (if applicable) and then contact a waste oil company (like Rilta Env) to clean the tank. They will need to provide you with a certificate of disposal/cleanliness and then the tank can be taken away. They would probably take the tank away too. I assume it's a plastic tank - if it's metal - your local metal company will take the tank provided you have the certificate.

Thanks Lorz!

It is a plastic container. If the previous oil supplier would remove it, I assume I need to pay them! Do you have any idea what the cost may be?

Expect to pay about €800. The oil supplier will only take the "good product" if applicable. You'll need to contact a waste oil company to clean & dispose of the waste tank. I assume you're in [broken link removed] - they specialise in tank cleaning.

You could also try to sell the tank or give it to someone who is building a house for free, presuming the tank is in good condition.

Like everything in life, there is the correct & legal way to do things and the illegal and obviously cheaper way to do things... the choice is yours.
