Public transport price increases

If they could only reduce costs and increase customers. In Dublin public transport is not a realistic option for many people as the car is quicker and more reliable for their journeys.
 
Why the surprise? The response to businesses closing is to increase rates. That's the same logic. The same thing applies to the so-called "commercial" semi states.
 
If it Moves, Tax it. If it Keeps Moving, Regulate it. And if it Stops Moving, Subsidize it.
 
It's when you are on holiday in France and see how far you can travel for €1 that you really see how bad this country is in these matters.

Do you know how much the French public transport system is financed by taxes and government subventions which allows for low fares? Over 55% in Paris alone.

Dublin Bus as a direct comparison received less than 41% in 2011 and even less in 2012.

In fact, public transport in Ireland receives the lowest amount of State funding in the EU.

That's an excellent document. Worth comparing relative bus driver pay in Dublin & Paris.
 
Wow...a bus driver in Talinn gets nearly 50% more than a bus driver in Warsaw. With wages like that, explains why so many Polish fled west in the past 10 years and are staying west despite the recession and shortage of jobs
