Public Holidays & Annual Leave

If I work full time, all year round and get 20 days annual leave are the 9 public holidays in addition to this or deducted from this?

I've a feeling my employer is deducting the 9 days plus good friday and the few days over Christmas when the office is closed - effectively leaving me with 8/9 days real holidays

The 20days are in addition to the 9 public holidays. The days they close the office over Christmas (apart from any days that are in the 9 public hols) will use up part of your 20days annual leave entitlement, unless of course you don't get paid for them.
