Problems locating PC on Network

Hi all.

Hopefully you can help me out.

I have 2 pc's contected by a wired network. I can access the internet on both pc's.

My problem is when I try to access the Z drive on the client PC nothing is happening.

When I ping the the main pc it says everything is fine.

When I ping the client pc it say z drive disconnected. when I check network places no z drive. when I check the c drive, the z drive is sitting there. any ideas on how to fix it. thanks in advance

Can you clarify exactly what the 'Z drive' is?

Can you clarify this? Ping tells you nothing about the connection of network drives.

Have you gone through the step of sharing the Z drive. Right click on drive, click Sharing/Security - may be in properties also. You will have to see a little hand under the drive or folders within that drive to see the contents elsewhere on the network. Putting the two computers on the same subnet will only let the network cards talk hence the ping.
