Plastic-free kettle

Is there such a thing as a plastic-free electric kettle-where the interior doesn't come in to contact with the water?

All the ones I've seen have a plastic lid / window / filter.

Totally Plastic free is very unlikely i'd say. There's a few mainly metal kettles available though.

What's the driver behind this?

Yes! However, the reviews are mixed and there seems to be a problem with water leaking from the sides of the spout :(

Well, there must be other examples (maybe you can find a European supplier of https://www.amazon.com/Secura-SWK-1701DB-Stainless-Double-Electric/dp/B011BE7V8W (Secura) kettles). And you could consider an on-hob whistling kettle as some of those are of steel/wood construction.
