Planning permission for solar panel

I have read the key post on Solar panels and there is a lot of useful information,
but I have a specific question.
Does anyone have experience of applying for planning permission for fitting
a solar panel to an existing house, in an urban setting in Ireland.

I don't. But as long as your building is not listed and the panel is an integrated one ( one that doesn't stick out but is build into the existing roof ) there is hardly a reason for planners to object . The best way to go is to give the local planning authorities a call and simply ask. The suppliers might be helpful as well.

Thanks for the reply, but.....
According to my architect, it is not as simple as that ( while I agree it should be).

In my case, the panel needs to go on the front of the house and the planning authorities in Dublin are not fond of them. We intend contacting the planning
authorites and asking, but I am interested in knowing if anyone else had successfully
done this.

The suppliers didn't even know that you need planning permission to add a solar panel.
