Paint smell in bedroom but no painting done

Since Christmas we have a smell in one of our bedrooms which is like paint or turpentine. There has been no painting done recently so it can't be that. Plumber has had a look and there seems to be no leaks anywhere. Any advice on what we can do to solve it? Is there somebody we can get to come in and have an inspection? We are in Munster area. Thanks

As AJ says, did someone stay there and spill something?

Did you put something new in there - curtains treated with flame-retardant can smell pretty chemically. Some toys smell strongly too (although not usually of paint).

If there isn't a leak and you haven't been painting could the smell be coming from outside?
 
The room is a spare room and it hasn't been used in months and we haven't put anything new into it. We thought about whether the smell is coming from outside but we can't get it elsewhere - not outside or in any other room. Anybody know who I should contact to have a look at the room?
 
There are a lot of posts related to this on BBC watchdog or if you google strange paint smell you will find a lot of material which may relate to your problem
