On illness benefit, notice to employer.

Hi, I have been on illness benefit since Dec 2008, I have been suffering from depression. I am slowly getting better, but want now to hand notice to my employer. I want to do this as I developed condition because of work and stress, and feel going back there would damage my recovery. If I hand my notice in would this affect my illness benefit ?. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.
