I have a new HP probook laptop running Windows 7. Our router is quite old..a d-link airplus G 802.11g 2.4Ghz wireless router.

I tried to connect to the router via wireless and also using a network cable but it wont work at all. I connected directly via cable to the network point and that works ok. So the laptop and router will not talk to each other.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Might be silly question, but have you turned on the wireless on the laptop? Small sliding switch on the laptop itself.. Not too sure where it's located on the HP Probook...

Can you see the "wireless" icon on the bottom right of your screen. Right click on that icon, click on "Wireless Network Connections".. then click "refresh network list" - can you see anything in the list?

Definitely check the [broken link removed], probably switched off.

Similar problem with my sons Acer Aspire 5551-A laptop. Tried to connect to wireless but we do not have the option. Only option is to connect using ethernet cable.

Cannot see a switch on laptop or wireless icon.

Can anyone help?

Update. Got professional help. Internal adaptor needs to be replaced.

BTW, laptop is not new.
