Need something more weather resistant than Ronseal Fencelife

Hi,

I have 100 metres approx of fencing and Ronseal FenceLife - 5 year - Medium Oak works very well - My problem is with the 2 timber gates - more exposed to wind and rain and fencelife doesn't do as well - anybody know of a non water based solution that would last longer or something that could be applied before applying the Ronseal Fencelife?
 
I was working at some guys place who used spent car engine oil and he said it lasts for years....certainly looked good to my eye.
 
Think RF is only for rough sawn timber , not planed.

Cresote and engine oil sounds good but might be dodgy near kids, animals, fruit or veg.

Ronseal have another product for smooth timber, can't rem the name but its very commonly available
