What a start to the week.

My PC, a Dell 4550 Desktop on XP, won't boot up with my profile (it hung last week and I turned it off). Something must have happened....

Here is the message that comes up:

'Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible casues include insufficient security rights or a corrupt profile.

Detail: Error performance inpage operation'

It then loads up a new desktop with none of my familiar icons or program shortcuts.

Help!!!

This very thing happened to me. After days of trawling the net I got frustrated with all the conflicting answers so this is what I did.

1. Set up a new user (or two) and give them administrator rights.
2. Once you have your new profile, go and look in the 'C' drive and see if all your documents are there. Mine were still in the computer and I had to trawl through them and get what I needed. Have a look at 'start, programs' and see if your programs are there.
3. Import whatever you need to your new profile. It actually helps get rid of junk.
4. BACK UP YOUR STUFF!!

Hope this is of help. Three weeks later my computer is almost back to the way it was.

You may have to reinstall certain items but not too many.
