hello.

Please can anyone advise on our best option:

I have just bough a house with my fiancee.
I already have an apartment that i will rent out.
It is my fiancee's first purchase.

I bought the appartment in 2004 and am getting interest relief at 30%. I understand i will now have to update revenue and will lose that as it will no longer be my primary residence.

I want apply for interest relief for new home and as per the revenue website, in our case of joint borrowing, each claimant should submit their details online separately.

So...

Do we half the mortgage value in each application for these purposes?
Is my fiancee still eligable as 'first time buyer' for her half?

Or is it (as i suspect) we both apply using full mortgage details and we will get mortgage relief at 15% (non-first time buyer) into our joint accout?

Many thanks!

I've received varying responses from Revenue staff over the phone on the policy where one purchaser is FTB and the other is not. Only way to get a supportable answer is to submit a query by e-mail. You'll need to supply your PPS. They won't respond otherwise.

There is no clarity on their website on the policy in this situation which baffles me as surely it is a common scenario.

Frustrating.
