Mortgage relief - am I entitled?

Am getting a mortgage (on my own home) to both finance an investment property and finance further work on my own home (we built an extension by direct labour, without a mortgage, but now need to get finance to finish off - e.g. Sewage treatment system, landscaping, flooring etc).
Does anyone know if I am entitled to mortgage relief (I think strictly speaking we (my husband and I) are first time buyers (we inherited our home from a relative and have never had a mortgage before). Thanks :')
 
As far as I know, you will be entitled to relief on any improvements you make to your home, but not on any finance raised to finance investment etc.
