Mortgage discount on property in negative equity & pyrite confirmed

Hi,

We have found ourselves in a difficult situation. The house is in negative equity and has been confirmed to have high levels of pyrite. The pyrite has not yet started to damage the house so an application to the Pyriteboard for remediation will be rejected.

Right now we are just about managing the monthly repayments and had decided to reduce our monthly payments by making a once off lump sum payment to the bank. My question is whether or not a bank (Ulster Bank) in my case would consider a discount on the mortgage if I were to pay off a large lump sum say, two-thirds of the outstanding debt.

Thanks.
