My husband has been diognosed with a tumour which he will need to undergo surgery to remove. We have been advised by his doctor that he may be out of work for anything from 6 months to a year. We have a mortgage and I would like to know if there is any assistance we could get with the payment of it. I job share so work 18 hours one week and 24 the next. My husband worked in the construction industry so does not get any sick pay. We are currently getting illness benefit, but this and my pay will not cover the mortgage. We have two children aged 12 and 7.

Sorry to read about your husband.

Have you checked with your lender about the possibility of getting a moratorium for a few months on your mortgage?

Do you have any illness cover on your life assurance that might help?

was your husband not covered by the construction industry federation insurance, he should have been, by law his employer in construction should have paid contributions weekly for him, I know there is some sickness benefit for this also, i think is limited to a certain number of weeks but woud be better than nothing
