Missed Direct Debit

I recently missed a DD payment through my own fault and the finance company charged me €15 and my bank charged me €20 . I then got a letter from finance company saying they would try again to withdraw the money but i received this on the same day they tried and the money was not in.
The bank again charged me €15 (€10 returned DD and €5 referral fee).

Does this sound right ? The charges total €50 so i'm really screwed for trying to clear my bank and add in funds for my next DD.

I'm afraid of more charges arising and not being able to pay them as i am on job seeker benefit at the moment.

Any suggestions appreciated

Sounds right to me. Can you get the money in asap. Also, contact your finance company (if you haven't already) and let them know what is happening with it.

legally it may be, but morally?
and then they want to know why people are going mad or defaulting on loans.

Ask finance company to cancel their charges for the 2nd direct debit as they did not leave enough time for you to get the letter before trying to take the 2nd direct debit. Also you could ask that they cover your bank charges for the same reason.
