All messing aside (I presume that wasnt serious), a "snorkel" which is the air intake up near the roof of serious 4 X 4's wouldnt be the worst idea ever for all cars. Water in the air intake seems to be one of the main problems, so if the air intake was even on the top of the bonnet it might minimise the risk (if the water's sloshing over your bonnet I think its fair to say its game over.....).
