My friend (33) has lived abroad for 6 years. He has driven since he was 18 without incident. He now has been quoted minimum €1,700 to get comprehensive insurance in Ireland as all his no claims bonus has been removed. Any advice please on an insurance company who will look favourably on this situation. MAny thanks

Contact Hibernian Aviva. They will give a 20% discount if your friend does and passes their 'ignition test'. It is free to full licence holders but payment of 75 - 100 euro if you fail it. No affiliation

Tell him go to a broker and ask them to check Sertus (which will accept an NCB as far back as that) or if they won't quote, try x/s direct who don't operate an NCD system but can be reasonable in return for a higher policy excess.
