Light switches failing

We had a series of light switches replaced by an electrician about 18 months ago. Over the past few weeks three of the upstairs switches have failed ie they no longer turn the light on. This was usually preceeded by a short period of the switches working irregularly or the lights occasionally flickering when on. So is it normal for three new-ish switches to fail so soon? Or is there something else wrong? Many thanks (before I call the electrician)

Apologies if this is so obvious you didn't think you needed to mention it, but have you checked the lightbulbs?

Are these the same switches or different ones. Standard light switches should out last you!. If you had their make/model number you could look up their spec, which will give the number of operations they are rated for. Otherwise, are the connections tight or is there a very high load on them. ie 10's of 50W halogens?

Just to clarify.... these are standard switches, controlling standard lights. Two separate, single switches controlling two bedroom, ceiling lights (single bulbs). One double switch controlls a bathroom light (single bulb) and a landing light (single bulb). The lightbulbs were all recently replaced and the fusebox appears normal.

They may be all connected (looped) so check each one for a loose connection and that will probably fix the full circuit.
