If a person passes away and there is no idea how many bank accounts/loans they have, or even where they are, what is the best way of finding out.
Would you just write a letter to every financial institution requesting details of any accounts in the name of the person.
Does the Solicitor normally do this, or can you do it yourself. If the person was married, can the wife sign the request for disclosure of Bank Accounts if they were in the other person's name only, or does this have to come from a Solicitor.
Also, what is the best thing to do with the mortgage. Should the Bank be advised to freeze the mortgage while waiting to see does the mortgage protection policy cover it?
Am helping someone out at the moment and any advice would be very much appreciated.
