Leasehold

I have just found out that there is a 1400 year leasehold on my house, to Iarnrod Eireann of all people. I am not charged ground rent. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy out this leasehold and if so, what is the best way to go about it.

It is almost certainly possible to buy out the ground rent, but why bother?

Well found Clubman, thanks.

I suppose my next question is:
Are the likes of Iarnrod Eireann amenable to selling the leasehold, and if so, is there a right way to approach them.

Doesn't matter whether they are amenable or not - you have a right to buy out the ground rent if you decide to go for it. Unless you are actually asking if it will be done by consent or would need to go to arbitrarion in which case I don't know.
