Leak under shower tray

A few years ago we installed a shower in a bedroom over the kitchen. The shower tray is leaking somewhere beneath the tray at the outlet pipe. The kitchen ceiling now has water damage on it. The walls are fully tiled down to the shower tray with a white plastic inset put in between shower tray and wall tile. Is it difficult to remove the shower tray to find the problem? Will I be able to remove tray without damaging the wall tiles? Is there any quick work around to find the source of the water leak? Any advice would be appreciated.

Is the amount of "...water damage..." to the kitchen ceiling bad enough to require removal and replacement?
If so it would be the ideal place to access and assess the leak above...

We had the exact same problem last year. We had to get a large ceiling replaced. The leak was identified as coming through the tiles and not from under the shower tray, so we had the shower re tiled when the new ceiling was going In. House hold insurance paid for the repair works minus the excess however it did not cover the re tiling costs.
