Laptop keeps shutting down

Lately I seem to be having a problem with my laptop.

It works fine for the following sites:
1. Google G-mail
2. www.askaboutmoney.com
3. www.boards.ie

If I now carry out a search on, lets say 'laptop shutdown' it will allow me to do the search, but when I click to enter the site it just shuts down.

Tried Today fm this morning and again it just shut down.

I left it on over night, and it was fine on its own. It seems to be when I am using it only. I was thinking it was to do with temperature, but I checked underneath and it does not seem to be hot in the fan vicinity.

Any help appreciated

Is it backed up. Is your AV up to date and have you scanned it recently.

Perhaps you have some ad one installed which is causing problems.

Try a different browser?

I have checked using AVG 2012, Malwarebytes and Avast this morning.

They seem up to date to me.

I taught too it was a loose connection but that does not seem to be the case

..and a different browser?

Tried mozilla firefox earlier too but the same problem resulted.

I think its to do with not having a hard surface under the laptop when on the bed, causing overheating, as it is currently working fine. An A4 hard back diary may have solved it. We will update if the same problem persists.

That doesn't match what you said earlier when you said it was only some websites.

If you block the vent it will obviously overheat. Especially if its not been cleaned out for a long time.

Definitly something do with it heating up. had same issue with my laptop, being used in a similar way and when it heated up (and sometimes it was very hot) it would just shut down. The laptop needs ventalation to work correctly.

The make of the Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A100-998

Unfortunately I am only guessing. I do not think it is overheating though.

I just got a pop up today and it says:

Heading:AVG 2012 Summer Update

Title: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012 needs to be updated

Text: Its free and easy to update and gives you maximum protection

Below this there is a click 'Free Update' icon and a 'Cancel' icon.

Is this normal from AVG.

Pop ups, I would be wary with them... If you open AVG itself & click on "updates", you will get any required updates...
