Land Registry or Registry of Deeds?

Hi,

I've just received a quote from a solicitor for the legal fees in purchasing a new house and I'm a little confused about the difference between the "Land Registry Title" (€675) and the "Registry of Deeds Title" (€308) - is this something I choose or is it up to the seller? What is the difference between them?

I know the amount of the fees is minute compared to the overall cost of a house purchase, but I'd like to be less ignorant... The solicitor's professional fee comes in at €907 so I think I'm getting a good deal all round, so there might be some truth to "ignorance is bliss(ish)" :)

Some properties fall under the remit of Land Registry, some under the remit of Registry of Deeds and some under both. Neither you nor your solicitor have any control over these fees.

Thank you Clubman,

My first post/question and an answer in 1 minute. Very impressive!
