I am on disability allowance for 3 years. My wife was my carer and was receiving half rate. I have not seen her in eight weeks, and has confirmed she has left the country. I am in hospital and not allowed leave until I have a carer
Question : My 23 year old son is at home and on JSA, he is prepared to be my carer. I was told yesterday by SW, that he will not qualify as he is on JSA. Can he give up the JSA, and apply for full rate Carer Allowance, and will it take the full 20 to 26 weeks to process
 
Yes he can apply, and will probably be subject to the current waiting period. He may qualify for Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) in the meantime.

He will have to sign off JSA because as a carer, he is not available for full-time work.
