My nephew is on JSA. (reduced he is only 22y and reduced also because of means test). He has been working casual days for the pass three months. For the pass few weeks he has worked Saturday and 3hrs on a Sunday. He did not receive any JSA for those weeks. When he enquired he was told if he only works one day Saturday he will receive JSA as well as his one days pay. Could anyone explain Why?? it seems very unfair.

How many days does he work during the rest of the week.
You have to be unemployed for 3 days a week to be paid.

Do his wages exceed what he would get for a full week on JSA (given that he's on an age-related reduced rate and means have also been applied)?

He is on a Springboard course during the week, only working Sat/Sun

He is on minimum wage Sat 7hrs Sun 3hr

Is the Springboard course full time? If it is, then he is probably considered to be in full-time education and isn't eligible for Jobseekers payment.

Only those on part-time Springboard courses can keep their payments under the Part Time Education Option.

Did he check out his entitlements at SW office before starting the Springboard course?
