Can anyone clarify whether if one will be disqualified from JB for 9 weeks due to redundancy payment it is better to apply for JB immediately on being made redundant or to wait until the 9 week period is up before applying.
Reason for query is two conflicting views from SW office regarding period JB is paid for from the date it starts, one answer says if you apply straight away, you get it (in theory depending on how busy) after the nine weeks are up and it continues for the next 12 mths less the nine weeks. Other answer was that it would be better to wait until the nine weeks were up and then when you apply it will be paid for full 12 months from that date. This obviously means that should a person be still unemployed at the end of the JB period they would have got the full 12 months and not 12 months less nine weeks. Which is correct?
